An Introduction – Living Your Best Life

One of the writers I have followed in the past few years said in a recent webinar she hosted that it’s better to write about a topic or a lesson you learned after you have moved on from the pain or the situation that brought the lesson. The idea is that when you are at a different point in your life the residual feelings – specifically the negative ones – will not cloud your perspective. Under that perspective, being jaded or bitter, therefore, isn’t the best place from which to write about lessons learned, etc.

I disagree. Kinda.

I do agree with the basic logic behind that idea from the perspective of having learned the lesson of what it’s like to write from a place of pain and hurt. Bitterness is one of those things that can easily be detected and can be a bad look that can cause regret later. But with some topics and situations I think that writing while going through the situation can actually be beneficial both for the writer and their readers. That’s why lifestyle blogs about parenthood, dating, and weight loss journeys are so popular. Reading what a person has to say while they are on their journey and seeing their hits and misses can be informative and helpful. Plus, people often sugarcoat things and glaze over important details when they’re writing from a reminiscing perspective. That’s just human nature. But when you’re in the thick of it, that raw emotion comes out. As a reader, it can often feel more relatable and authentic. Plus, as a writer, there’s the fact that with an audience you can feel like you’re being held more accountable when you’re writing in real time.

And so with that in mind, that is the direction and goal I have for this platform moving forward. Basically, I believe that being free and living your best life is something you have to want and work for everyday. It’s not something you put on a pedestal to look at everyday like it’s the reward when you reach the top of the mountain. It’s making up your mind everyday to enjoy your life. It’s taking the bad with the good and finding the good in the bad. It’s changing your mindset and focusing on what you want more of in your life so that more will manifest (i.e. activating the law of attraction). It’s not living for tomorrow, but instead appreciating and doing what you can now. It’s choosing happiness and choosing to be free. It’s also recognizing those people, environments, and circumstances that are toxic to you and make you feel less than.

In realizing all of that, I came to the decision a little while ago that I needed to revamp this blog so it reflected more of that. So many months (and books read, meditations done, and sermons listened to) later, we’re back!!! I look forward to talking about the books, movies, and thoughts that have inspired and informed me on this quest to live my best life. (I’m still also working on moving most of my archives from the old site -the relevant ones – over to this newer site too.) I also look forward to sharing what I’m learning along the way as I explore new opportunities, chase adventures, and stay focused on my work and the goals I have set for myself. Life is never perfect – and I damn sure have some stories to tell about that – but I’m still enjoying it (mostly) because I choose to be happy, live on my own terms, and …Be Free!!!
